Wallace Pack Unit Overview
Wallace Pack Unit is operated by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Correctional Institutions Division. TDCJ lists the unit at 2400 Wallace Pack Road, Navasota, TX 77868, five miles south of Navasota on FM 1227 in Grimes County. It is a state prison for male sentenced prisoners, with custody levels G1 through G3, Security Detention, and Outside Trusty. Senior Warden Garrett Simmons and Region I Regional Director Michael Britt are listed in the research source inventory.
Pack is not a booking jail. It does not handle the first stage of a Grimes County arrest, and it is not searched through a county roster. A person may pass through the Grimes County Jail after arrest, then later move to a TDCJ prison after conviction, sentencing, and transfer. Once TDCJ receives the person, the public lookup shifts to the TDCJ locator and the unit's own contact channels.
The TDCJ Pack Unit profile supplies the unit address, custody levels, capacity, medical details, programs, and operations.
Use that unit page for Pack-specific facts, then use the TDCJ inmate search for a named prisoner.
Wallace Pack Unit Capacity
TDCJ lists Wallace Pack Unit with a capacity of 1,426. That capacity is state prison capacity, not Grimes County Jail capacity. It should not be added to the 111 approved beds at the county jail when measuring the local jail population. Pack and Luther together form a major state prison presence in Grimes County, but TDCJ controls their custody records, visitation approval, and offender information systems.
Pack has been ACA accredited since January 2007. Its medical capabilities are notable in the research: ambulatory medical, dental, and mental health services; a 12-bed infirmary; 60 wheelchair accommodated cells; 24-hour medical care; chronic care clinics; and single-level services that include assisted disability showers and CPAP accommodating housing.
Lookup Wallace Pack Unit Inmates
Use the TDCJ Inmate Information Search for a Pack inmate lookup. TDCJ says the search covers currently incarcerated TDCJ facility inmates only, is updated on working days, and is at least 24 hours old. Relatives should call the unit before going to pick up an inmate or before traveling for a visit, because assignment, privileges, or schedules may change.
- Open the TDCJ Inmate Information Search.
- Search by TDCJ number, SID number, or last name plus at least a first initial.
- Use optional gender and race filters only if they help narrow a common name.
- Confirm the result shows Wallace Pack Unit before using Pack visitation or mail information.
- If the person is not in TDCJ, check the Grimes County Jail, BOP, ICE, or VINELink channel that matches the custody status.
| TDCJ Field | Use | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Last name and first initial | Name search | TDCJ describes last-name search as exact-match. |

| SID number | Direct search | State identification number search. |
| Gender and race | Filters | Optional narrowing fields on the locator. |
Wallace Pack Unit Contact
Use the unit phone for Pack-specific questions, and use TDCJ statewide pages for locator, visitation, family, mail, and eCommDirect rules. County sheriff staff do not control Pack assignment, prison visitation privileges, or TDCJ release arrangements.

Pack is close enough to other Grimes County custody sources that the names can be confusing. The sheriff's jail is in Anderson and handles recent arrests and county jail custody. Pack is south of Navasota and belongs to TDCJ Region I. A court record, bond paper, or jail release note may show that a person is waiting for TDCJ transfer, but a Pack unit assignment should be verified through TDCJ before mail, travel, pickup, or visitation plans are made.
Visit Wallace Pack Unit
Pack visitation follows TDCJ visitation rules, not the Grimes County Jail appointment process. TDCJ tells visitors to confirm the inmate is assigned to the unit, confirm the inmate has visitation privileges, confirm the schedule and cancellations, verify approved-visitor status, bring photo ID, check clothing compliance, and avoid prohibited items. Vehicles and visitors are subject to search.
| Visit Topic | Pack / TDCJ Rule | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Approval | Visitor approval and privileges must be confirmed | Check with TDCJ before travel |
| Schedule | Use TDCJ unit visitation schedule and confirm no cancellation | Call the unit if uncertain |
| Hotline | TDCJ visitation hotline is 844-476-1289 on weekends, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. | Use for basic policy questions |
| Property | No cell phones inside the secure perimeter; cash is limited to coins not more than $35 | Review TDCJ rules |
Wallace Pack Unit Mail
TDCJ offender information pages, not the county sheriff FAQ, should be checked for current Pack mail, phone, money, eCommDirect, parole, release, and family services rules. State prison mail and deposits are governed by statewide TDCJ policy and vendor systems. The research did not identify a Pack-specific local fee schedule, so no fee amount should be invented.
| Service | Correct Source |
|---|---|
| Inmate locator | TDCJ Inmate Information Search |
| Visitation | TDCJ visitation page and unit confirmation |
| Mail and family services | TDCJ offender information hub |
| Victim notification | VINELink Texas |
For notifications, VINELink Texas can help with custody and release alerts where available. For federal custody, the BOP locator is the correct tool. For immigration detention, the ICE Online Detainee Locator is separate. Those systems do not replace TDCJ for a Pack prisoner, and they do not provide a county-style booking photo gallery.
Wallace Pack Unit Programs
Pack has a broad program profile. Research lists the DWI Recovery Program, Sex Offender Treatment Program, Sex Offender Education Program, literacy and GED, CHANGES/Pre-Release, cognitive intervention, construction carpentry, hospitality and tourism, faith-based dormitory, life decisions, peer education, reentry planning, chaplaincy, GO KIDS, community tours, and community work projects. Agricultural operations are conducted with Luther and include cow/calf, edible and field crops, swine finishing, grain storage, and a buffalo ranch. Additional operations include security horses, security pack canines, scent-specific canines, and a surplus warehouse.
Note: Confirm TDCJ assignment, visitation status, and schedule changes with the unit before traveling to Wallace Pack Unit.
